For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.—John 3:16
When I was a child, our family opened gifts on Christmas rather slowly. My father would hand out one gift at a time so each person could take a turn. This slower pace allowed us to appreciate each gift before moving on to the next one. This month we are reflecting on the gifts we received with the coming of Jesus. We’ll take time to appreciate what each gift means for us now and for eternity. My prayer is that through this study, we will:
- Grow in our understanding of all we have received in Christ
- Wonder at the depth of God’s love and grace
- Renew our commitment to share the good news of Jesus

Ryan Cook is an Associate Professor of Old Testament and Hebrew at Moody Theological Seminary. He earned his bachelor of arts in Bible and Theology at Moody and his master of arts in Old Testament from Grand Rapids Theological Seminary. During his time as a professor at Moody, he earned his doctorate from Asbury Theological Seminary. Ryan and his wife, Ashley, and their three children reside in Northwest Indiana.
