Discussion Starters

We hope these questions will help you consider (or discuss with others) what God is teaching you through this month's study of His Word.

Days 1-7

  • How has God called you in the past? How is He calling you today? What questions about His calling are you asking right now? (see November 1)
  • Why did Adam and Eve hide from God? Do we ever hide from God? What causes this reaction in us? (see November 3)
  • What do we mean when we talk about corporate calling from God? Is it different or the same as our personal calling? (see November 4)
  • Talking about calling, we mainly focus on the ways God communicates with us. Do you agree that it can also be a two-way conversation? How does the “us-to-God” part happen? (see November 5)

Days 8-14

  • What are some of the reasons we call on God? What prompts these cries, both for us personally and for our churches? (see November 8)
  • Start a list of the different Hebrew and Greek words mentioned in the devotional that are associated with calling. How do these words from Scripture’s original languages help us better understand the topic?
  • Compare the calling of Zacharias, Mary, and Elizabeth. How are they similar? What are the differences? How does each person respond? (see November 12)
  • What is your salvation story? If you are studying with a group, take this time to tell others how you came to know Jesus as your Savior. And if you haven’t taken that step, go to moodybible.org/knowing-christ/.

Days 15-21

  • What are the two things, required for salvation, that Paul mentions in Romans 10? (see November 17)
  • God’s general call to us includes holiness and fellowship with Christ. How are you pursuing that part of your calling?  (see November 18)
  • Has God’s call changed the direction of your life? Has it affected your personal ambition? Reflect on how following God has influenced your path in life. (see November 20)
  • Can you describe the difference between the Living Stone (and precious Cornerstone) and the living stones as discussed in 1 Peter 2? What does being a “living stone” mean to you? (see November 21)

Days 22-30

  • Has suffering been a part of your calling? How have you relied on Jesus as your Shepherd? (see November 22)
  • Have you responded to a special call from God? How did He get your attention? What was your response? (see November 23)
  • What is your takeaway from the story of Isaiah? What can we learn from his reaction to God’s call? (see November 26)
  • Has God opened your eyes, maybe in a dramatic way, to His truth? Ask God to show you His will for your life and to reveal anything in your life that needs His correction. (see November 30)
